A different bridal portrait…
No need to say “cheese”— you look great girlfriend! Just lean your head back a touch and begin to imagine… Make sure your fingertips are just barely touching the background and close your eyes. Click, click, click and we were done. The portrait we captured was stunning and I was really happy with the results.
The funny thing is that she had no idea what I was up to and, honestly, that can turn into a “creative opportunity” in most photo shoots. Certainly there is a degree of expectation on the shots you will deliver, but a little creative license can go a long way.

A Sunset Beach Wedding
Some people just know how to have a good time! The couple in these photos were party people and I have to say that they rung every ounce of enjoyment from their wedding. When clients are relaxed, photographers are at their best.

A Fun Engagement Session
Engagement portraits should be fun and this session was no exception. Though we were hindered by inclement weather, we still got the shots and ended up in Siesta Key Beach just in time before the thunder storms kicked into high gear. After several different stops here in town, we garnered some good shots and had a great time!

She’s an elegant gal…
This portrait is an exercise in formal posing. I intended for this pose – as well as the lighting – to reflect a pensive mood. I do admire the former greats of photography and as photographers I am respectful of the techniques that have stood the test of time.

A Bride on a Bridge
I found this bridge, located in the Palm Aire Country Club, while scouting the area for a location to shoot a bridal portrait. At the time of my visit (around 5:30 P.M.) the could coverage looked very interesting and colorful. So, a date was set and we captured this bridal portrait. The darker clouds behind her add a lot of interest to the composition. I set the lighting to intentionally overpowered the sun and create a little drama in the portrait.

A Bridal Lounge
by Angel Navarro Photography
During every wedding there is at least one opportunity to just stop what your doing and survey your surroundings. At a recent wedding, I did just that and found this sitting area. Immediately a lightbulb came on and I set out to share my idea with the bride. She agreed and the rest is recorded in this image for you to see. As far as the technical stuff, I felt it would sufficient to use available light and a quick custom white balance to render the colors accurately. I fired a couple of shots after carefully posing the bride and voilá (ISO 200, 1/30th @ f4.5.
A little advice to the brides which are reading this excerpt, “give your photographer a chance to be creative, it will pay BIG dividends!”

Wedding Cakes…
by Angel Navarro Photography
Often a neglected subject matter for a many photographers—the wedding cake!!! After all, hundreds of dollars are spent on the wedding cake, so why record it for the bride and groom. I try to capture exciting angles with good backgrounds to bring life into the image.

Veiled in love…
by Angel Navarro Photography
This romantic image captures how these newlyweds feel about each other. And, that is the job of a photographer. Just enough posing and a touch of the right light is all it takes to create a memorable portrait that will be remembered for a lifetime!

Letting Her Go…
I rarely see this much passion and feeling in a father-n-daughter dance at weddings. If you look closely you can see her dad’s struggle as he ponders letting go of his little girl. This is my favorite picture from this wedding because it captures the essence of what we dads go through when it comes our time to let go.
As much as I love classical portraiture, this candid capture of father and daughter is one of the ways I tell the story of my clients’ wedding day. Thank you Lord for the gift of an artistic eye.

Little Bundle of Joy
This young client was a pleasure to photograph. At a tender age of 6 months, she was all smiles for the camera. Her dad was a big help with his cooing and gooing behind the scenes. I used a simple pink poly-background with a hotspot, a main light, a reflector and a hair light. The main light was feathered for a soft effect.
Parents, you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home for a portrait. Many photographers, including myself, will visit you at home for your photography needs. This portrait, and others I did not show, were captured in the family room.

Love is at the door…
A happy newlywed couple find time for an embrace and a memorable portrait. The door in this scene does a wonderful job in framing the couple and the red is one more bonus.

He Dipped Her…
Well, he dipped her just right as I released the shutter on my camera. This shot, taken in front of Bradenton’s Lakewood Ranch Country Club, was a special request made by the bride. The bride very exited about capturing this portrait and she reminded me of it every time we spoke. And, every time I responded by saying “don’t worry about it, it’s as good as done!”
As I set up the lights and camera angle, I explained the pose to the newlyweds and joked around for a bit until the ambient light was just right.
A word to future brides–this sort of photography does not happen by chance. We thoroughly discussed this shot before the “big day” including details about which direction to face, the time of day, the pose and the lighting that would be required. If you, a future bride, desire a shot like this for you and your “honeybun”, well remember it takes planning and forethought. Please don’t think for a moment that your photographer can just grab this shot out of thin air. Be patient and let your photographer “do his thing”!
The final print was printed on fine art canvas for a painterly look which only canvas can provide.

“Soldier” Gets Hitched…

I recently had the great privilege of capturing the wedding photography of a soldier and his bride. It was a true privilege for me to be the photographer at this wedding, in that I feel an immense respect and gratitude for our troops and soldiers.

A Bridal Portrait
by Angel Navarro Photography
Wow! What a privilege to have captured this bridal portrait. As any bride can imagine, she was nervous and timid about her portrait. However, I reassured her that I had a vision for this shot and she would love her expression, the pose and the final print.
It’s a shame that so many brides pass up the opportunity for a bridal portrait. I always say, “it’s the one opportunity you will have to enjoy a full rehearsal with your dress and in the process have a memorable photo taken that will be cherished for years to come.
In this portrait, many elements are present but not seen. By this I mean the lighting, the pose, the props, and the mood. In posing her, I stressed the “S” figure in her body. The lighting is short, meaning the mask of her face is receiving a flattering splash of light. And, the props are kept to a minimum to ensure that she receives your attention and not the elements surrounding her.
In all, the bride is happy and I am happy with the results. So if you are a soon-to-be bride and your planning away with all details of your grand event, remember to include in your plans a bridal portrait.
